Day 1: Airport – Negombo
Arrive and take a private transfer to Negombo, approximately 20 minutes away.
Day 2: Negombo–Sigiriya
After breakfast, transfer to the ancient rock fortress city of Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage. Opt to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress and be rewarded with an amazing view of the surrounding area.
Day 3: Sigiriya–Polonnaruwa–Sigiriya; optional cycle tour
Opt for a guided cycling trip iaround Sigiriya and Habarana, visiting rural villages. The tour allows you to see vegetable fields, rice fields and various crops farmed by villagers.
In the afternoon, will visit the ruined city of Polonnaruwa, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Opt to visit Gal Vihara temple, where three colossal granite statues of Buddha are carved in the rocks.
Day 4: Sigiriya–Dambulla–Kandy
Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, home to magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colours and shapes. After visiting Dambulla, transfer to Kandy.
Day 5: Kandy; optional cooking class
Free day in Kandy. In the morning, opt to take a cooking class with a local family living in the mountains around Kandy. Visit the Kandy market and go shopping for the ingredients. Learn to cook a typical Sri Lankan meal, learning how each dish is prepared using just the right amount of spices and herbs to preserve the nutrition and goodness. Enjoy your delicious Sri Lankan meal seated on the veranda.
In the afternoon, opt to visit the famous Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places for Buddhists from all over the world, as it houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.
Day 6: Kandy–Ella
Take a spectacular train journey to Ella, one of the most scenic train trips in the world. Wind through green mountains and tea plantations.
Day 7: Ella; optional hike to Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak
Opt to trek to Ella Rock. The trek goes through forests and mountains with panoramic views. Climb Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak. The trek is approximately 4 hours.
Or opt to embark on a tuk tuk ride to Dambatenna Tea Factory and Lipton Seat, followed by a scenic tea estate walk with an expert guide. Approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Day 8: Ella–Yala
After breakfast transfer to Yala National Park, the most famous national park in Sri Lanka, and the ideal place to spot the Sri Lankan big four: the elephant, the sloth bear, the wild buffalo, and the leopard.
Day 9: Yala; optional morning safari Yala National Park
Opt for an early morning safari in Yala National Park. A picnic breakfast for the safari is included.
After the safari, transfer to your next hotel in Yala, a tree house!
Day 10: Yala; optional fishing and pottery excursions
Learn to fish and bring back your catch to let the local chefs to whip up an exciting meal for you. Later, learn Sri Lankan pottery from expert artisans and make your own clay pot to keep.
Day 11: Yala – Unawatuna
Transfer to Unawatuna, a picturesque beach town fringed by lush groves of coconut palm trees.
Day 12: Unawatuna; optional whale watch excursion Mirissa (November till March)
Opt to go on a whale watching trip from Mirissa and Dondra Point. From November until March this is one of the best places in the world to see Blue Whales, the largest mammal ever. There's also a good chance of spotting Sperm Whales.
Day 13: Unawatuna–Galle–Unawatuna
Visit the city of Galle. Opt to visit the Dutch Fort in Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia.
Day 14: Unawatuna–Airport
Your Sri Lanka with Kids tour comes to an end. A transfer will be arranged to take you to Colombo airport to board your flight home.
