Day 1 – Airport to Negombo
Arrive and take a private transfer to Negombo, approximately 20 minutes away.
Day 2 – Negombo to Anuradhapura
After breakfast, transfer to Anuradhapura, where you will have free time to explore. Anuradhapura is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the world, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Opt to visit the Sri Maha Bodhi, a 2,200 year-old sacred tree where pilgrims from all over the country come to do their rituals and offer flowers.
Day 3 – Anuradhapura; optional safari Wilpattu National Park
Opt to go on a full day or half day safari in Wilpattu National Park, accompanied by a local nature guide to help you spot wildlife. You have a chance to see a leopard, elephants, sloth bear, deer and endemic birds. Picnic lunch is included.
Day 4 – Anuradhapura to Jaffna
After breakfast, transfer to Jaffna. In the afternoon opt to visit the Hindu temple Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, one of the most sacred places of worship for the Hindu community of Sri Lanka. The temple is filled with intricate artwork and statues of gods and deities of the Hindu culture.
Day 5 – Jaffna free day
Free day to explore Jaffna. Opt to visit the star-shaped Fort Jaffna, built by the Portuguese in 1616. Or visit the island of Neduntheevu, also called Delft.
Day 6 – Jaffna to Dambulla to Sigiriya
After breakfast, transfer to the ancient rock fortress city of Sigiriya. En route, stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple, home to magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colors and shapes.
Day 7 – Sigiriya; optional cycle tour, optional safari to Minneriya National Park, optional Hopper tasting
In the morning, opt for a guided cycling trip around Sigiriya and Habarana, visiting rural villages. The cycle tour goes through jungle and villages and takes about 4 hours.
In the afternoon, opt for a safari in Minneriya National Park, famous for the gathering of herds of wild elephants. Minneriya has recorded 24 species of mammals, over 170 species of birds and 25 species of reptiles.
Enjoy a delicious Sri Lankan dinner in the evening. This three-hour dining experience might just turnout to be one of the highlights of your Sri Lankan adventure.
Day 8 – Sigiriya to Kandy
After breakfast, climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO world heritage.
After the climb of Sigiriya, transfer to Kandy.
Day 9: Kandy; optional cooking class
Free day in Kandy. In the morning, opt to take a cooking class with a local family living in the mountains around Kandy. Visit the Kandy market and go shopping for the ingredients. Learn to cook a typical Sri Lankan meal, learning how each dish is prepared using just the right amount of spices and herbs to preserve the nutrition and goodness. Enjoy your delicious Sri Lankan meal seated on the veranda.
In the afternoon, opt to visit the famous Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places for Buddhists from all over the world, as it houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.
Day 10 – Kandy to Ella
Take a spectacular train journey to Ella, one of the most scenic train trips in the world. Wind through green mountains and tea plantations.
Day 11 – Ella; optional hike to Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak or visit to a tea estate
Opt to trek to Ella Rock. The trek goes through forests and mountains with panoramic views. Climb Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak. The trek is approximately 4 hours.
Or opt to embark on a tuk tuk ride to Dambatenna Tea Factory and Lipton Seat, followed by a scenic tea estate walk with an expert guide. Approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Day 12 – Ella to Galle
Transfer to Galle. During the drive, catch a glimpse of fishermen on stilts.
Day 13 – Day off in Galle
Free day to enjoy the city of Galle. Opt to visit the Dutch Fort in Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia.
Day 14 – Galle to Sinharaja Rainforest
After breakfast, transfer to Sinharaja rainforest. Opt for a guided walk in the rainforest in the afternoon. Sinharaja Rainforest was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988.
Day 15 – Sinharaja Rainforest, Talalla Bay
Transfer to Talalla Bay, a beautiful, sheltered crescent shaped cove, fringed by palms. Close by is the town of Tangalle.
Day 16 – Talalla Bay free day
Free day to spend the day as you see fit. Relax and enjoy the sun, sea & sand, or partake in some of your favorite water based activities.
Day 17 – Talalla Bay; optional whale watch excursion Mirissa (November until March)
Opt to go on a whale watching trip from Mirissa and Dondra Point. From November until March this is one of the best places in the world to see Blue Whales, the largest mammal ever. There's also a good chance of spotting Sperm Whales.
Day 18 – Talalla Bay to Airport
Your Sri Lanka Adventure comes to an end today. A transfer will be organized from your hotel to Colombo airport to board your flight home.
