Day 2 – Buenos Aires: City Tour and Tango
Enjoy the highlights of one of South America’s most charming cities. Opt to watch dancers perform tango in the streets of the colourful neighbourhood La Boca, admire the governmental palace La Casa Rosada (“The Pink House”) on Plaza de Mayo, or enjoy the bohemian atmosphere and antique shops of cobblestoned San Telmo.
In the evening, opt to take a tango class and learn all about the traditions and rules of the Milonga (the local tango dance saloon) while trying out your newly acquired skills on the dance floor.
Day 3 – Buenos Aires to El Calafate
Transfer to El Calafate. This will be your base to visit the Perito Moreno glacier. Upon arrival enjoy a free day to stroll through the city, to make a short horse riding trip along the Argentina lake or to visit the Glacier museum.
Day 4 – El Calafate: Perito Moreno Glacier
Visit the world famous Perito Moreno glacier. Today’s excursion takes you right onto the ice: put on your crampons and start your short hike over the glacier. In the afternoon you will stand right in front of the immense ice wall of the Perito Moreno glacier and can see and hear how big blocks of ice break off and crash into the water of the lake below.
Day 5 – El Calafate to Estancia Cristina
Transfer to Punta Banderas port, where your boat leaves at 08:15 to Estancia Cristina. Sail the famous lake Argentina among stunning scenery of icebergs and glaciers, arriving at Estancia Cristina in the early afternoon. Opt to visit the Museo Costumbrista (Museum of Traditional Habits), and other attractions in the area. If you enjoy long walks, you can take the two and half hour hike to Cascada de los Perros, a waterfall that’s sure to surprise you with its beauty.
Day 6 – Estancia Cristina to El Chalten
Transfer by bus from El Calafate to El Chalten (3 to 4 hours). During the trip you can enjoy some great views of the Andes.
Upon arrival you can get into the national park Los Glaciares to make your first trek.
Day 7 – El Chalten: Los Glaciares
Trek to Laguna de los Tres. Climb 400m to get to the Laguna de los Tres, and enjoy the majestic views of Mount Fitz Roy, the glacier de los Tres and its lagoon from the highest point of the trek. From here you circle Laguna de los Tres and head towards the viewpoint of the Laguna Sucia and its glacier.
Day 8 – Los Glaciares to El Calafate
Enjoy another hike through Los Glaciares, or relax before catching a bus in the late afternoon to El Calafate.
Day 9 – El Calafate to Puerto Natales
Transfer by bus to Puerto Natales, your base for visiting Torres del Paine in Chile. Spend the afternoon getting ready for the W-trek tomorrow. During four hiking days you will visit all the park’s highlights; like the bicoloured rock formation “Cuernos”, the granite needles “Torres del Paine” and the huge Grey glacier. You will walk between five and nine hours each day, and spend nights in dormitories of comfortable mountain cabins called ‘refugios’.
Day 10 – Torres del Paine: Grey glacier trek (20 km, approx. 8 hours)
Start your hiking adventure through Torres del Paine. Take the bus to the entrance of the national park and cross Pehoe Lake by catamaran. With some ups and downs you reach the first lookout after about two hours hiking, then its another two to see the glacier from up close. From here hike back to Lodge Paine Grande, where you will spend the night.
Day 11 – Torres Del Paine: French Valley trek (26 km, approx. 9 hours)
Hike to Refugio Los Cuernos through the French Valley. This rough and narrow valley is dominated on one side by the east wall of the Paine Grande Mountain, and on the other side by the Cuernos. Every now and then you can hear ice breaking off of the French glacier. With some luck you can even see one of these impressing ice avalanches!
Day 12 – Torres Del Paine – Refugio El Chileno trek (12 km, approx. 5 hours)
Hike along the deep blue Nordenskjöld lake with the Cuernos on your side up to Refugio El Chileno. From the refugio you can catch a glimpse of the granite towers you will visit tomorrow, weather permitting.
